When can I talk about my invention?
The general rule is 'file your patent first, then disclose'. Some countries, eg. USA, do allow disclosure first and then filing within 12 months. But most countries do not, and thus a non-confidential prior disclosure will 'knock out' your patent.

British Patent National Phase (Ex-PCT) and Direct Filing
When entering UK National Phase from an international PCT patent application, the following are typically required by the United Kingdom Patent Office (UKIPO) :
- Filing fee
- Search fee
- Examination fee
- Citation fee
- Translation (if PCT not in English)
- Identification of inventor (if not provided at PCT stage)
For a direct filed British patent application, for example, claiming priority from a first filed US patent application, the following are typically required :
- Filing fee
- Search fee
- Identification of Inventor
- Right to file by the applicant (if different to the inventor)
- Certified copy of the priority application
- Priority application number and date of filing
- Translation into English, if required

The Patent Office Search Report is issued within about 4 months of payment of application and search fees, i.e. the date of filing.
We will forward the Search Report to you and briefly comment on its relevance.
