British Direct Filing Costs »

A directly filed British patent application is typically around £450 GBP for filing plus the offiical fees (Filing, Search, Citations) that have to be paid to the British Patent Office (UKIPO).

Following publication of the application at around 18 months from filing or priority, the Examination fee will become due.

A first annual renewal fee becomes due on the fourth anniversary of the application.

European regional (national) phase entry from an international PCT patent application is typically around £1,250 GBP for filing plus the official fees that have to be paid to the European Patent Office (EPO).

If the EPO is the ISA, then the service charge is dicounted.

The EPO official fees (in Euros) are available from our tariff below, and include Filing, Search*, Examination**, Designation, Extension States, Excess Claim for each claim in excess of 15, Excess Page for each page in excess of 35, and Renewal for the third year.

* - depending on the international search authority, a fee reduction may apply.

** - in certain cases, the examination fee may be higher. Refer to the EPO official fees at the link above.

The EPO official fees for a directly filed European patent application (usually including a priority claim) typically comprise Filing, Search, Excess Claim for each claim in excess of 15, and Excess Page for each page in excess of 35.

Following publication of the search report at around 18 months from filing or priority, the Examination, Designation, and Extension States fees will become due.

A first annual renewal fee becomes due on the second anniversary.
